What made you want to study with the Coatings Training Institute? Where were you in your career when you began your studies?

I graduated from university in 2018 and since then I have worked in the Industrial Coatings department at Becker Industrial Coatings as a Development Chemist.

I chose to study with the CTI to give myself a challenge and expand my knowledge in the hope that this would enhance my understanding of coatings and allow me to grow within my company and progress in my career.

How did you find your experience studying through CTI? What were your main takeaways? What was the level of difficulty for you?

So far, the experience has been good. Choosing to study at Level 5 has been as expected, interesting and informative with some level of difficulty.

How did your studies help you in your career? Where are you now?

I specifically chose modules that were relevant to the chemistries that are most common within Becker’s Industrial Coatings department. Because of this, I have gained a more thorough understanding which has made it easier to develop and formulate coatings as I am able to apply what I have learned from the CTI in my day-to-day role.

What does being shortlisted for BCF’s Student of the Year Award mean to you?

I was surprised to have been nominated for ‘Student of the Year’, but it’s nice to have some recognition for the hard work that goes into studying alongside working full time. The nomination has given me a boost in confidence and has motivated me to continue with my modules.

What would you say to someone looking to study through CTI?

If you’re looking for a challenge, to increase your knowledge and be able to study at your own pace then the CTI is a really good idea.
